Arlington Court

Alington Court GardensEarly 19th-c Victorian mansion, set in peaceful gardens and surrounded by extensive parkland. The magnificent colonnaded state rooms are packed with a wealth of 19th-c glass, silver, ceramics and other interesting artifacts. The staircase, hall and gallery areas showcase a wonderful collection of model ships, collected by former owner Miss Rosalie Chichester (1865 to 1949). Located in the grounds is a handsome working stable block containing a fine collection of period carriages and other vintage horse-drawn vehicles. Run by National Trust*

Bradley Manor

Bradley ManorSmall medieval manor house and chapel, located by the River Lemon and set in 70 acres of peaceful woodland. The 15th-c house is built of roughcast whitewashed stone with a gabled front and unusual shaped windows. It contains a magnificent great hall with a carved Renaissance screen and a fine beamed roof, a period kitchen, buttery and a solarium. Run by National Trust*

Killerton House & Garden

Killerton House This elegant mansion house stands at the foot of a wooded hillside, amidst glorious gardens and parkland. Constructed by the Aclands in 1778, it houses Acland portraits, contemporary furniture and the National Trust Costume Collection, comprising some 3,000 garments from the 18-20th-c. Several rooms of note include the Music Room with an early 19th-c chamber organ, the Drawing Room, Library and Dinning Room, containing period furniture especially made for the house.

The 18 acres of restored gardens, woodland and parkland (laid out by Veitch) provide a riot of colour from early spring to later summer. Run by National Trust*

Knightshays Court

Knightshays Court A fine example Victorian Gothic architecture, built for the grandson of pioneer lace-maker John Heathcoat, in 1869. Designed by the somewhat eccentric architect William Burgess, it has medieval style interiors with rich decoration and elaborate ceilings. The large garden is known for its rare trees and shrubs, walled garden, formal terraces and clipped topiary. The later extended 'Garden in a Wood' and 'Willow Garden' areas afford some of the loveliest woodland walks.

Overbeck's

estuary views at overbeck's garden A dramatically beautiful sub-tropical coastal garden, with tall palm trees and far reaching views over the estuary at Salcombe. The fine Edwardian house contains a museum of vintage children's toys and interesting natural history exhibits. Run by National Trust*

RHS Garden Rosemoor

One of the RHS's most enchanting show gardens, located in the picturesque Torridge Valley, North Devon. The garden is beautifully laid-out with mature trees and shrubs and several colour themed gardens, including a herb and potager garden, cottage garden, winter garden, alpine terraces and extensive herbaceous borders. There is also a traditional rose garden packed with over 2,000 roses. Changing series of events and demonstrations held throughout the year.

Saltram

saltram houseGeorgian classical facades were added to this Tudor mansion house by Parker family in the 1740s and later work was added by Robert Adams and Thomas Chippendale. The grand interior is augmented with intricate 18th-c plasterwork, stucco ceilings and marble fireplaces. Its many fine rooms are beautifully decorated with contemporary features and furnishings, including several magnificent 19th-c chandeliers and many fine portraits and paintings.

Saltram's beautiful riverside gardens contain an 18th-c summer house, an orangery and several interesting follies, as well as a beautiful shrubbery and many imposing specimen trees.
