This spectacular display of pageantry is staged on a Saturday in early June, coinciding with the King's Official Birthday (also known as The King's Birthday Parade). The spectacle is watched by the Royal Family, with massed bands and guards on foot and horseback providing a thrilling exhibition of formation marching and wheeling. The demand for tickets always far exceeds the supply, but tickets are also available for the final dress rehearsals (without the King) on the previous Saturday. To obtain tickets for either standing room or seats at the rehearsal or actual ceremony you must enter a ballot. For details visit the official website. Note: processions along The Mall can be viewed without tickets. Location: The parade takes place on the graveled expanse of Horse Guards Parade, between Whitehall and St James's Park, starting at 10 am and lasting about 90 minutes. |
