Ashford is a pleasant little market town in mid Kent. It is an important shopping and tourist centre located near to the Kent coastline and the popular city of Canterbury. Voted as one of the best places to live in Britain in 2005, its compact town centre has an excellent range of shopping facilities. Many fine medieval and Georgian houses can be found in and around the town.
Located in St Georges Square, at the end of Park Street, is a British Mark IV tank from WWI. The tank was presented to the town in recognition of its gallant efforts during both world wars, when it suffered extensive bombing raids.
The town has been a major railway center for over 160 years. Its large railway works began in the early 19th-c and is now home to the International Eurostar terminus.

A magnificent Jacobean mansion, set in formal gardens.

The museum is housed in a 13th century tithe barn, which mainly contains exhibits of old farm implements and machinery. There is also a display of local hop cultivation and brewing, located in a traditional Kent oast-house.
